Influenza (flu) is more than just a bad cold. Flu is a contagious and potentially deadly virus that can result in serious complications for individuals living with chronic health conditions such as heart disease, lung disease, and diabetes, even when their conditions are well-managed.

Estimates indicate that 31 percent of US adults age 50-64 years and 47 percent of those age 65 and older have at least one chronic health condition that puts them at high risk for flu-related complications, including hospitalization, catastrophic disability, and even death.

The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) needs your help in reminding everyone, and particularly those with chronic health conditions, to get vaccinated against flu every year. NFID is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to educating the public and healthcare professionals about the burden, causes, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases across the lifespan.

We hope you will use these resources in your regular programming, as a public health service to your community.

Sincerely,

William Schaffner, MD, NFID Medical Director
